Bayern Munich Officially Protests Spanish Police Treatment of Fans in Madrid
Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of Bayern Munich, announced the submission of an official complaint regarding the practices of the Spanish police towards the club's fans at the stadium entrance in Madrid. These protests follow the German official's observation of what he described as arbitrary treatment against the team's supporters who were in the Spanish capital to back their club in a match that ended in an important victory for the Bavarian side.
Dreesen expressed his displeasure with the security measures taken against the fans, emphasizing that the club cannot overlook what its peaceful supporters endured. The Bayern CEO stated, “This action against our peaceful fans is incomprehensible and unacceptable, and this type of police behavior cannot practically become the norm in away matches in Europe.” According to the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, the club's management is currently seeking to put an end to these practices to ensure the safety of fans in upcoming European trips.
Regarding details preceding the incident, reports indicated that signs of heightened security began even before the traditional pre-match meeting, where a Spanish police commander attended fully equipped with riot gear. Although Bayern Munich celebrated achieving its first victory in Madrid in 25 years, the club chose to pursue the legal matter and officially protest the harassment faced by fans at the stadium gates.
