Kompany: 'Bernabeu Win Important, But Tie Not Decided Yet; We'll Aim for Another Victory in Munich'
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany expressed his satisfaction after his team's 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash. The Belgian manager affirmed that his side had taken a significant step, but stressed that qualification was far from secured.
Speaking after the match, Kompany stated: "I don't think we allowed Real Madrid to escape. I am happy with the result. It's a win, and any victory at the Bernabeu is important. Now we will play the next match at home, and we have an advantage."
The Belgian coach added that his team is well aware of Real Madrid's strength and danger, emphasizing the need for focus in the second leg. He said: "We respect Real Madrid's quality because they are extremely dangerous, but so were we. Our team always has the right to dream of victories because we play very well. We will start from scratch mentally and try to win again in Munich. I know this tie is not over yet."
Kompany also spoke about the Spanish team's ability to stage comebacks, stating: "We were very respectful towards Real Madrid and appreciate the quality of the team they are. But this is also who we are. We will try to win again. Beating the best team in the competition is a big challenge, knowing they are a great team."
Despite this important victory, Kompany refused to get carried away by excessive enthusiasm, concluding his remarks by saying: "I am happy with the result, but I know the matter is not decided yet. We will not fall into the trap of euphoria. If my players win next week, only then will I feel true joy."
The qualification spot is expected to be decided during the second leg, which will take place at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, April 15. Bayern Munich will aim to confirm their superiority, while Real Madrid hopes to overturn the result in their favour.
