Jimenez Nears Full Fitness with Milan After Friendly Appearance
Santiago Gimenez participated in a training session and a joint friendly match with Milan Futuro and a group of AC Milan first-team players on March 28, 2026. This was part of his physical rehabilitation program. The single session, lasting between 45 and 50 minutes, aimed to test his technical condition and enhance the continuity of his leg movement after a long absence from the pitch.
The Mexican striker confirmed his remarkable progress in the recovery stages after recently returning to matches following a four-and-a-half-month absence due to an ankle injury that required surgical intervention. Gimenez expressed his optimism, stating, “I am better every day,” indicating that the work plan is progressing very well. The player had made his first post-injury appearance in the recent match against Torino, where he played 18 minutes, including stoppage time.
The training session was attended by several teammates, including Ricci, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, and Niclas Füllkrug, a step preceding his anticipated return to the official squad. Gimenez is expected to be called up for Milan's upcoming match against Napoli, as the player seeks to contribute to the team's journey during the final two months of the season and ensure maximum readiness for the World Cup finals.
Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri stressed the importance of regaining his striker's services at this stage of the competitions. Allegri said, “In this final stage, there will be an important role and help,” in a clear reference to relying on Gimenez's abilities to strengthen the club's attacking power. The player also aims to reach full physical fitness before the global tournament, which Mexico will co-host.
