Marca: Brahim's Rise from Panenka Miss and Bench to Starting XI and Pivotal Role
Spanish newspaper Marca has lauded Moroccan star Brahim Díaz, commending his excellent recent performances for Real Madrid and his prominent role as a key player in the team.
Marca reported that Díaz is enjoying weeks of joy and victories, having transitioned from the substitutes' bench to a starting role in Arbeloa's lineup over the last five matches. He played a pivotal part in Real Madrid's resurgence against Atlético last Sunday.
The newspaper noted that the Moroccan international is considered an example of mental fortitude by coach Arbeloa within the dressing room, and a role model for overcoming difficulties. He has moved past a challenging period in late January to now become an important figure in the Bernabéu derby.
Marca clarified that Díaz's mentality has always been strong, but it faced its biggest test yet after he missed a Panenka-style penalty on January 18 during a controversial match between Morocco and Senegal. That game ended in "tragedy" for the Moroccans, despite CAF awarding the title to the "Atlas Lions" approximately two weeks prior.
The Spanish newspaper added in its report that Brahim is currently focused in Rabat with the Moroccan national team, where he is still considered an icon despite the famous Panenka miss. This will be evident next Friday in the friendly match between Morocco and Ecuador.
