Vigo Mayor Confirms Readiness to Host 2030 World Cup Matches After La Coruña Withdrawal, Invites FIFA Inspection
Vigo, Spain Mayor Abel Caballero affirmed on Tuesday that the city is prepared to complete the necessary renovation work to meet all requirements set by FIFA, positioning Vigo as a potential host city for the 2030 World Cup matches.
Caballero, in a statement reported by "Mundo Deportivo," indicated that he is urging the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to urgently bring a FIFA delegation to Vigo. The purpose would be to inspect the Balaídos stadium and verify the city's readiness to finalize all renovation work according to the required standards.
The Vigo Mayor added, "I reiterate my invitation for them to inspect the stadium and see how we are capable of completing all necessary works according to FIFA's requirements," emphasizing the city's full commitment to technical and organizational standards.
Caballero suggested that the President of the Spanish Federation, Rafael Lozano, does not want a FIFA delegation to visit Vigo. He believes this is because FIFA representatives might inquire about the reasons for Vigo's exclusion from the list of candidate cities for the 2030 World Cup and request clarifications on the decision.
The Mayor stated, "It seems the Spanish Federation is not adhering to FIFA's ethical codes," referring to what he described as a lack of transparency in the selection process.
