Santos: Pyramids Are Favorites, We're Proud to Be in Quarter-Finals and Aim for New Club History
Alexandre Santos, head coach of AS FAR, spoke about his team's anticipated clash against Egypt's Pyramids FC in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Santos stated: "This is a historic moment for our club. We will be playing in the Champions League quarter-finals against the title holders and the team currently leading the Egyptian league."
He continued: "They are a big team, and that is enough to say they are the favorites to win. However, that does not prevent us from saying that we are here because we deserve it, because we showed our collective strength in the group stage, and after overcoming difficult obstacles and a lack of fairness at times."
He added: "We will play against one of the strongest teams on the continent. We are here because we deserve it, because we are ambitious, because our group is strong, and because we are capable of playing both matches, in both battles. We must start and finish things well."
He further stated: "We must be balanced in both matches to create another historic moment. It's worth remembering that this is AS FAR's second consecutive quarter-final appearance in the 21st century, which is a testament to the team's efforts."
Santos concluded: "It's a transformation they deserve, and it proves that we are a big team. This makes us proud to be here, and we will try to advance further."
