Girona Coach Criticizes Lack of Attacking Edge, Explains Ounahi Risk
Girona coach Míchel criticized his team's performance following their draw against Levante in La Liga, explaining that the squad suffered from a clear lack of attacking aggression and an inability to create sufficient scoring opportunities despite dominating possession. The coach also noted that the opponent successfully applied effective pressure on ball distribution, limiting the team's effectiveness in dangerous areas.
Míchel revealed his decision to introduce player Ez Abde Ounahi for 30 minutes despite him suffering from a quadriceps injury, clarifying that medical examinations showed only a minor muscle spasm. Míchel stated, “Ounahi is coming from a situation where he hasn't played for two months and underwent tests yesterday due to muscle pain. Although the tests showed only a muscle spasm, there was a risk in playing him. However, I decided to bring him on because we needed decisiveness in the final meters.” He added that the original plan was for Ounahi not to feature.
Following the dramatic equalizer secured by Joel Roca in the 94th minute, Míchel emphasized Girona's need for greater determination in the attacking third. The coach remarked, “We dominated the play, but we lacked aggression in the final third. The resolve shown by Joel is what I need more of.” He also stressed the importance of his team reaching the 42-point mark to secure their position in the La Liga standings.
These technical statements come after the club has faced recurring difficulties in maintaining their advantage in the dying moments of matches, having previously dropped crucial points in stoppage time against both Sevilla and Alavés.
