Bartomeu (Former Barcelona President): "During My Management, No One Embezzled Money from the Club's Coffers"
Former Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu addressed a series of legal cases filed against him in the Spanish judiciary, including the "Negreira case" and charges of embezzlement. These charges include the alleged transfer of 4 million euros in commissions to other accounts without the club's knowledge during his presidency between 2014 and 2020.
In an interview with the Spanish news agency, Bartomeu stated: "During my board's tenure, no one embezzled money from the club's coffers, and I am certainly not one of them. On the contrary, managing the club cost us money."
He added: "I believe I am being persecuted. I have spoken with many lawyers and some judges who told me that what is happening to me is not normal and has never happened before in Spain."
He concluded by saying: "I am certain that they have thoroughly scrutinized the matter, as both the Public Prosecutor's Office and the courts have compared my information with everyone else's to ensure there were no financial irregularities."
