Slot: 'Only Barcelona Better Than Us on the Flanks'
Liverpool coach Arne Slot addressed the team's declining results this season, emphasizing that the difficulties are a collective problem rather than being tied to any specific player. Slot clarified that the drop in output from wingers, notably Egyptian star Mohamed Salah and Dutchman Cody Gakpo, does not stem from a decline in their individual form. He pointed out that their combined total of just 11 goals this season reflects a systemic flaw in the team's overall performance.
"We don't put the wingers in open situations enough," Slot stated. "We have Rio Ngumoha, who is 17 years old and has the opportunity to improve more and more. It's not just about the transfer market; we need to find a solution on the training ground."
He continued: "Pick any team that does it much better than us in the Premier League. I only see Barcelona in La Liga, and Lamine Yamal is there, but there weren't many chances coming from the wide areas in the matches I watched on Wednesday."
Slot also acknowledged a drop in Liverpool's tempo. "I am the same coach who was here last season," he said. "It's difficult to create a fast tempo in a match if you play against a team that doesn't want that."
The Molineux Stadium is set to host the FA Cup Round of 16 clash between Liverpool and Wolverhampton in the 2025-2026 season.
