Rome Municipality Approves New AS Roma Stadium Project Valued at €1.5 Billion
The Municipality of Rome has officially approved the technical and economic feasibility project for AS Roma's new stadium, planned for construction in the Pietralata area. The capital's executive body confirmed the project's compliance with conditions set in May 2023, paving the way for the implementation of the plan, which carries an investment cost of approximately €1.5 billion.
Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri stated that this sports complex represents a future urban renewal project and proof of the capital's ability to deliver high-quality work. Gualtieri said: "Today is an important day for Rome. The new AS Roma stadium is not just a sports facility; it is a project that speaks of the future, renewal, and confidence in the city's ability to accomplish high-quality work, with the complete rehabilitation of the Pietralata area." He affirmed that the project reflects the city's architectural and sporting ambitions.
The architectural design for the new facility includes a seating capacity of 60,605, with a dedicated curved stand accommodating approximately 23,000 fans. The complex will also feature extensive commercial and leisure facilities, including a 1,600 square meter museum and an 1,800 square meter official club store, in addition to 21,000 square meters allocated for hospitality and conference activities.
The process now enters a voting phase in various committees and the Capitoline Assembly, scheduled between March 2 and 12. The approved timeline aims for the stadium's groundbreaking by March 2027, with stakeholders seeking to complete construction by 2030, which could allow the new facility to participate in hosting events for the UEFA European Championship 2032.
