Mohamed Salah Excluded from Liverpool Match Following Comments on Coach Relationship, Later Apologizes
Liverpool Football Club announced the exclusion of forward Mohamed Salah from the squad for their match against Inter Milan. This decision followed public statements made by the player regarding a strained relationship with coach Arne Slot. Salah had expressed that there was currently no relationship between them, contrasting with their past interactions, and also voiced uncertainty about his participation in an upcoming game against Brighton before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations.
These remarks drew widespread criticism from the British press, ultimately leading to his exclusion from the Inter Milan fixture. Mohamed Salah commented on the situation, stating: “There is no relationship between us. Previously, we had a good relationship, and now suddenly there is no relationship. I told my parents to come and watch the Brighton match. I don't know if I will play or not, but I will enjoy myself. I will have a good time because I don't know what will happen. I will be at Anfield to bid farewell to the fans and leave for the Africa Cup of Nations. I don't know what will happen when I am there.”
Following his exclusion, Mohamed Salah issued a public apology. He later started in Liverpool's match against Brighton before joining his national squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
It is worth noting that Mohamed Salah was named the Premier League Player of the Season last year and finished fourth in the Ballon d'Or award. Furthermore, Salah was the top scorer and assist provider in the Premier League last season, registering 29 goals and 18 assists, whereas this year he has only contributed to four goals and six assists.
