Flick Warns Barcelona Players After Atletico Madrid and Girona Defeats: "We Won't Abandon Our Style."
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick held a lengthy meeting with his players following the team's recent defeats: a 4-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals, and then a 2-1 defeat against Girona in La Liga, which saw them drop to second place, two points behind Real Madrid.
Spanish news reports, in the aftermath of the Catalan team's match against Atletico Madrid, revealed that Flick was more furious than ever since arriving at Barcelona. He not only severely reprimanded his players at halftime during the match at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano stadium but also intensified his anger the following morning.
The following day, Barcelona players reportedly asked Flick to adjust his tactics against teams with more attacking options, especially in the absence of Pedri or Raphinha, as reported by the "Football España" website.
After Barcelona's match against Girona, Flick gave the players two days off to mentally recharge. "Mundo Dominion" reported that Flick held an hour-long meeting with his players on the pitch upon their return to training.
During that hour, Flick once again reviewed Barcelona's errors and assured the players that he would not abandon his playing style. He emphasized that his priority was to restore intensity to their performance rather than change the tactical plan.
The German coach asserted that if his players positioned themselves better on the field and pressed more aggressively in advanced areas, opponents would not be able to create as many chances as Atletico did.
Flick also demanded an improvement in the team's attacking effectiveness, noting that they had scored only one goal in their last two matches from 32 shots (10 of which were on target).
Spanish newspaper "Sport" revealed this, stating that Flick insisted on his style and asked his team to return to the performance levels they showed last season, rather than altering their approach.
