Laporta: "It Would Be Great to Host the 2030 World Cup Final at Camp Nou, But There's a Lot of Work to Do First"
Joan Laporta, a candidate for the presidency of Barcelona, affirmed that hosting the 2030 World Cup final at Spotify Camp Nou remains an ideal option, while simultaneously emphasizing that the project requires significant work before it can be realized.
Laporta stated in remarks reported by Mundo Deportivo: "Regarding the 2030 World Cup final, it would be great for it to be held at Camp Nou, but there is a lot of work that needs to be done first."
He added: "We need to make an adjustment to the general plan, and we have requested that from the municipality, but it's not just about finishing the stadium. FIFA requires that all areas surrounding the stadium be prepared; everything, including the campus and the surrounding plaza, must be made ready."
Laporta's statements reflect his acknowledgment that Spotify Camp Nou is not yet ready to host the 2030 World Cup final, given the ongoing renovation work on the historic Catalan club's stadium as part of a comprehensive modernization project. This necessitates the completion of numerous reforms and adjustments to the infrastructure and external surroundings before considering hosting the global event.
