Crisis in Paris: Dembélé Criticizes Teammates' Selfishness, Luis Enrique Responds: 'His Comments Are Worthless, No Player Is Above the Club'
A verbal spat has erupted within Paris Saint-Germain between Spanish coach Luis Enrique and player Ousmane Dembélé, following their 3-1 defeat to Rennes in Round 22 of the French League.
The crisis at the Parisian club began with Dembélé's criticism of his teammates following the loss to Rennes. He stated: "We need to show a greater desire to win, and the most important thing is to play for the team. Playing selfishly on the field will not benefit us. Last season, we prioritized the club and the Paris Saint-Germain badge before thinking about ourselves."
Luis Enrique's response was swift. He declared: "His statements are worthless, and I will not allow any player to be above the club. I am responsible for the group, but no one is above the club – neither the players, nor myself, nor the sporting director, nor even the president."
It is worth noting that Paris Saint-Germain (51 points) could lose the top spot in the French League if their direct pursuer, Lens (49 points), defeats hosts Paris FC today, Saturday, at 21:00 GMT+1.
