Flick: 'I Don't Like or Care to Talk About Real Madrid'
Hansi Flick responded in his own way to a question regarding Barcelona's performance in the Copa del Rey, and also spoke about the anticipated top-tier match against Atlético Madrid in the semi-final of the competition.
During the pre-match press conference, Flick was asked for his opinion on those who downplay his team's level in the Cup because they played against weaker teams. His answer was concise, stating: "Ask Real Madrid." This was a clear reference to Albacete, the team Barcelona defeated in the quarter-finals, and the same team that eliminated Real Madrid from the Cup after beating them in the Round of 16.
He added: "We must also respect second-division teams. We must respect these teams. It's the Cup competition, and they have shown their worth. They managed to beat first-division teams. For me, there's no point in competing with Real Madrid. It's just a waste of energy, and that's what I don't like."
Regarding whether playing against Atlético was tougher than facing Real Madrid, the coach replied: "I am only focused on this match. I don't like talking about Real Madrid. That's good for you (the journalist), but it doesn't interest me. If we play against them, my focus will be on them. Atlético deserves respect. They are a great team."
Concerning the match against Atlético Madrid, Flick said: "We have faced some problems. Rashford is not ready yet, and that's not good news, but I trust my team. The situation is not easy. We will face a great team. I watched their Cup match against Real Betis, and it was impressive. Simeone puts in a great effort at Atlético Madrid. I truly appreciate what I saw. It will be a difficult match."
It is worth noting that Barcelona will visit Atlético Madrid tomorrow, Thursday (21:00 GMT+1), for the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.
