Nairobi United coach, Salim Ali, emphasized the importance of fan support following their one-goal defeat to Wydad AC in today's match, part of the fifth round of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

Ali noted that negative criticism represents only a small percentage of fans, and what truly distinguishes teams is the supporters who encourage and back the players in all circumstances. He also praised Wydad for their significant fan support in today's encounter.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, he stated: "For me, I am sure that all you see today is just 5% of the club's fans."

He added: "This clearly shows that when you have a fan base, the 12th man, it is truly wonderful."

He continued: "We don't need fans who come to criticize the team, but rather fans who encourage, support, and push the team forward."

Ali went on to say: "I believe what they did today, even though their number was small, about 300 to 500 fans – I'm not sure of the exact figure – the entire stadium was singing and trying to support the team."

He concluded: "These are the things that should be highlighted; support is not limited to playing at home, but rather to how supportive fans are created both home and away."

What percentage of fans did Salim Ali believe were truly supportive at the Wydad AC match?

Nairobi United coach Salim Ali estimated only "5 percent" of a club's fanbase, like the 300-500 Wydad AC supporters, truly embody the "12th man" spirit. He praised their ability to make the entire stadium sing.

How did Salim Ali's comments reflect on the role of fan support in football?

Salim Ali stressed that true fan support, characterized by encouragement rather than criticism, is vital for a team's success. He advocated for dedicated fans who back players consistently, whether playing at home or away.
