Benhashem: 'Our Goal is Top Spot, Final, and Confederation Cup Title' After Nairobi Win
Mohamed Amine Benhashem, coach of Wydad AC, discussed his team's 1-0 victory over Kenya's Nairobi United in the fifth round of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, emphasizing that the match was not easy.
Benhashem stated: “Today's match was difficult, especially after losing the previous encounter and playing away from home. We were compelled to secure the win and collect the three points.”
He added: “We implemented clear playing strategies, and fortunately, we managed to score the goal, even if it came late. It's a good result, especially as it brings us closer to qualification.”
The Wydad coach continued: “We set our goals from the beginning. It's true that Wydad is accustomed to the CAF Champions League, but this season we are participating in the Confederation Cup, and our first objective is to finish the group stage at the top, then reach the final, and subsequently win the title.”
Benhashem concluded his remarks by saying: “There is no secret to it; it is the fruit of hard work and the choices we made at the beginning of the season. After the Club World Cup, we compiled a list of 19 players and signed 17 elements according to precise criteria, especially at the defensive level.”
