AS FAR Rabat Eyes CAF Champions League Quarter-Final Spot
AS FAR will play one of their most crucial matches this season tomorrow, Saturday, when they face Tanzania's Young Africans. Their sole objective is victory to secure a spot in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals, or at least put themselves in a strong position to do so.
The Moroccan side understands that any result other than a win will significantly complicate their mission. A victory would provide AS FAR with a strong boost and place them in a comfortable position before the final matchday, while a draw or defeat would leave their fate dependent on other results.
Following their win against Algeria's JS Kabylie in the previous round, AS FAR's qualification destiny is now in their own hands. Harimat's teammates need to secure a win by a two-goal margin to advance directly to the last eight.
CAF regulations stipulate that head-to-head records determine standings in the event of a tie in the Champions League group stage. Currently, AS FAR and Young Africans are level on points (5 points each). Young Africans hold the advantage, having won the first leg 1-0. However, if AS FAR wins tomorrow by more than two goals, they will gain the head-to-head advantage and officially secure their qualification for the quarter-finals, with one match remaining.
AS FAR will host Young Africans tomorrow, Saturday, at 8:00 PM (GMT+1) for Matchday 5 (the penultimate round) of the group stage. The match will take place at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, behind closed doors.
Group B Standings:
1- Al Ahly: 8 points
2- Young Africans: 5 points
3- AS FAR: 5 points
4- JS Kabylie: 2 points
