Young Africans Coach: "Not Happy About FAR Rabat Fans' Absence; We Play Football for Enjoyment"
Pedro Gonçalves, coach of Tanzania's Young Africans, expressed his disappointment regarding the absence of FAR Rabat fans from Saturday's match. The two teams are set to clash tomorrow (20:00 GMT+1) in the fifth round of the CAF Champions League group stage.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Gonçalves addressed the issue of the home fans' absence. "If you ask me, I am not happy because the stadium lacks fans. We feel some disappointment because of that, as football is for the fans. Ultimately, it's a game for enjoyment, and everyone should seek that. It's not a war or a fight; we are just here to play football."
He continued, "We are a little frustrated by this, but at the same time, we must consider that fans in the stands should exhibit good behavior. Unfortunately, sometimes actions occur that lead to bans. I hope such incidents do not recur in the future, as African football is developing significantly, and the world is increasingly respecting African football."
Gonçalves added, "Everyone must pay attention. We are one community in Africa, and everyone should care about African football. Ultimately, if you ask me, I am not entirely happy. Some might say, 'But doesn't that relieve pressure from the stands?' Yes, perhaps, but football at this level needs atmosphere and excitement."
He concluded by recalling a past experience: "This situation was impactful because I previously had the opportunity to play with the Angola national team against Morocco in Agadir a year and a half ago in a friendly match, and the atmosphere was wonderful and impressive."
