Mauritanian Journalist Aamar: "I Covered 5 AFCONs and Never Saw Such Flawless Organization as in Morocco, Which Lifted the Tournament from Bottom to Top"
Mauritanian journalist Hammoud Aamar provided a candid assessment of the reasons behind the criticism directed at Morocco's hosting of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Drawing on his extensive experience covering several continental tournaments, Aamar compared the level of organization in the Kingdom to previous editions and even to international competitions held outside the continent.
Aamar wrote in a post on his official Facebook account: "Why is Africa against Morocco? I have covered five African tournaments before, and I have never witnessed such tight, professional organization as seen in Morocco."
He continued, stating: "I used to ask myself, 'Is this the Africa Cup of Nations I know?' Were it not for the slogans, flags, fans, and teams, I would have said it wasn't the tournament I'm familiar with! Even the most recent edition of the Club World Cup, organized by the United States of America, which I attended and followed through all its stages, had a very ordinary level of organization."
He added: "This country has paid the price for its progress, modernization, and prosperity, and the price for elevating Africa from a swamp of chaos into a world of professionalism. It prepared everything, from magnificent stadiums, modern roads, railways, and high-speed trains, to contemporary stations in every city, airports, and state-of-the-art, five-star hotels, welcoming the continent with all its diverse nationalities."
He explained: "Morocco elevated this Cup from the depths of chaos to the peak of professional excellence, but 'Mama Africa' does not change, does not develop, and only wishes to cling to the bottom of the rankings, living at the rear of backwardness and disorder. Therefore, it is not surprising to see the entire continent rejoice at Morocco's defeat in a match. However, they know very well that Morocco stands prosperous, a thousand miles ahead of all other countries on the continent. They also acknowledge that an edition like this has never occurred in Africa before and will not be repeated for decades, except in Morocco."
