CAF Recuses Senegalese Disciplinary Committee Chairman Ousmane Kane from AFCON Final Case, Assigns Task to Kenyan Deputy
Egyptian journalist Mohamed Said, known for his close ties to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has revealed exciting new developments concerning the crisis of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. The match, held last Sunday in Rabat, saw Morocco face Senegal and ended with Senegal lifting the trophy for the second time in its history amidst widespread chaos.
The source confirmed that Senegalese Ousmane Kane, chairman of the CAF Disciplinary Committee, has been temporarily recused from the case due to his country's involvement in the dispute. The responsibility has been assigned to his Kenyan deputy, Jean Onyango, with the possibility of adding four other Disciplinary Committee members: South African Norman Arendse, Egyptian Mohamed El-Mashta, Chadian Ibrahima Issaka, and Nigerian Felix Golbasia, given the sensitivity of the file.
The Egyptian journalist noted that the investigation will focus on all circumstances surrounding the event, including the withdrawal of Senegalese players led by head coach Pape Thiaw and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, as well as the incidents of violence inside the stadium.
The source added that the Disciplinary Committee will rely on three primary reports to determine responsibilities before issuing any decision: the report of Congolese referee Jean-Jacques Ndala, the report of Egyptian match commissioner Ahmed Megahed, and the reports of security coordinators Algerian Imad Eddine Mahmoudi and Malagasy Serindra Riaka.
Mohamed Said emphasized that resolving the case will take longer than expected due to the complexity of the events and the involvement of multiple parties. He affirmed that CAF is making a significant effort to ensure justice and transparency in making its final decisions.
