Mbaye's Parents: "We are Proud to See Him Play in His Mother's Country and Represent His Father's; It's the Final We Dreamed Of"
Ibrahim Mbaye's parents, the Paris Saint-Germain player, expressed immense pride in their son's presence in the Africa Cup of Nations final. They emphasized that this achievement holds special significance for them, as their son proudly represents both his mother's and father's countries simultaneously.
Yasmine, the player's mother, shared her feelings on the eve of the final match, stating: "Everyone feels proud to see him play in his mother's country and represent his father's country. This is exceptional for everyone. For us, it's the final match we dreamed of, as Senegal and Morocco are the two countries Ibrahim belongs to."
She added: "But we don't joke about it at all; we all support Senegal. What impresses us most about him is his adaptability and maturity."
Abdullah, Mbaye's father, for his part, expressed great pride in seeing his son shine with the "Lions of Teranga" in a statement to "RMC Sport." He said: "His blood represents these two countries, and this is exceptional for us. He is half Senegalese and half Moroccan. It's the final match the family dreams of, and our country is 'Sene-Morocco' – that is our country. However, I prefer Senegal to win, as Mbaye is our Senegalese family name, and I hope Ibrahim achieves victory."
He continued: "They welcomed him in Senegal like a brother; he is an affectionate boy. When given love, he always accepts it and knows how to be social with everyone. On a footballing level, he has always been mature in his play, and this was the case when he was in the youth categories, and it remains so with the seniors. This is a great achievement for a young man his age."
The Africa Cup of Nations final, between Morocco and Senegal, will take place this Sunday evening, starting at 8:00 PM (GMT+1), at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
