Mbappe Risks Injury to Save Coach Alonso
French star Kylian Mbappe risked aggravating his knee sprain injury by participating in the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona, a match that ended 2-3, in an attempt to save coach Xabi Alonso's position.
Despite medical advice to rest until January 21, Mbappe decided to play, accepting all potential risks. Two hours after Real Madrid announced Alonso's departure, Mbappe posted a message on social media.
In his message, Mbappe said: "It was a short period, but it was a real pleasure to play under your leadership and learn alongside you. Thank you for trusting me from day one. I will remember you as a visionary coach and a football expert. Good luck in the future."
Mbappe's 29 goals this season were not enough to prevent Alonso's early departure, who will be replaced by Álvaro Arbeloa. Mbappe is not expected to participate in the upcoming Copa del Rey match against Albacete, as there is no longer an urgent need for his involvement.
