Officially: Manchester United Appoint Michael Carrick as Manager Until End of Season
Manchester United officially announced on Tuesday the appointment of Michael Carrick as interim manager until the end of the current season. The appointment was confirmed via the Red Devils' official website.
Carrick takes over from Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed on January 5, following a period where Darren Fletcher had temporarily managed the team.
During Fletcher's temporary tenure, Manchester United exited the FA Cup after a 2-1 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Carrick, 44, is a former United player, having made 464 appearances and won five Premier League titles with the club.
He also served as assistant manager from July 2018 to December 2021 and had a previous interim spell in November 2021, securing a 3-2 victory over Arsenal, a 1-1 away draw against Chelsea, and a 2-0 win over Villarreal.
Subsequently, Carrick managed Middlesbrough from October 2022 until the end of the 2024/25 season, leading the team in 136 matches.
