Two CAF Champions League Matches Behind Closed Doors, $100,000 Fine: CAF Sanctions AS FAR Over Al Ahly Incident
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a series of disciplinary sanctions against Moroccan club AS FAR, following incidents that occurred during their CAF Champions League match against Egypt's Al Ahly on November 28, 2025.
CAF clarified that these decisions were made after a Disciplinary Committee meeting held on December 17, 2025. It was determined that AS FAR violated Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, in addition to Article 32 of the Safety and Security Regulations.
Consequently, and as confirmed by the military club, AS FAR has been penalized with playing two upcoming home matches in the CAF Champions League behind closed doors. These matches will be against JS Kabylie and Young Africans.
The CAF Disciplinary Committee also decided to impose financial penalties totaling $100,000 USD. This amount includes a $20,000 fine for the use of laser pointers and $15,000 for throwing water bottles.
The list of fines also comprises $15,000 for introducing multiple balls onto the pitch during play, and a significant $50,000 for throwing a dangerous solid iron object. CAF deemed this a direct threat to the safety of players and referees, and a violation of the principles of sportsmanship and competitive integrity.
