Laporta Responds to Pérez: "They Suffer from Something Called 'Barcelonitis,' a Disease Planted in the Heart of Every Madridista"

Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, made statements today, Tuesday, on the sidelines of the Copa del Rey match between Deportivo Guadalajara and Barcelona, when asked about comments made by Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez.

Laporta stated, "I have nothing to add; the matter is exaggerated and illogical. They suffer from something called 'Barcelonitis,' a deep-rooted disease planted in the heart of every Madridista."

The Barcelona president affirmed that the club is not affected by such messages, explaining that this constant focus on Barcelona does not bother them; rather, it benefits them. He declared, "This suits us because it means they are more preoccupied with us than what they should genuinely be concerned about," emphasizing that Barcelona must remain focused on its own path.

The Catalan president defended Barcelona's stance and its desire to reach an understanding with official bodies. He clarified, "We have a position to reach an agreement with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), and we believe this is best for football. We seek peace in European football, while others do not seem to."

Far from softening his tone, Laporta reiterated his core message when asked again about criticism coming from Madrid, repeating, "Their continued talk about Barcelona from the capital and from our eternal rival suits us." He then concluded once more with his most frequent phrase: "They suffer from acute 'Barcelonitis.'"
