Court Orders Paris Saint-Germain to Pay Kylian Mbappé €61 Million
The Paris Labor Court on Tuesday ordered Paris Saint-Germain to pay €61 million to player Kylian Mbappé as compensation for unpaid salaries and bonuses.
This highly anticipated decision comes a month after a tense hearing in the record dispute between the two parties. The Real Madrid and France national team forward had demanded €263 million, while the Parisian club filed counterclaims totaling €440 million against its former player. The court rejected all of Paris Saint-Germain's demands.
Kylian Mbappé's lawyers stated upon leaving the Paris Labor Court: "The club indicated that it did not wish to pay because it was awaiting a decision from the Labor Tribunal, and here it is. Furthermore, the Tribunal ordered provisional enforcement, meaning Paris Saint-Germain must pay now. Football is not an outlaw zone, and we hope that Paris Saint-Germain will be able to comply automatically, without the need for a bailiff."
Paris Saint-Germain is expected to issue a statement, though the club has not yet decided whether it will appeal the ruling.
