Regragui on Hakimi: 'His Goal Since Injury Has Been to Play AFCON; Comoros Decision Will Be Made at Last Moment'
Walid Regragui, head coach of the Moroccan national team, confirmed that Achraf Hakimi is doing everything possible to return and participate with the "Atlas Lions" in the Africa Cup of Nations finals. He noted that the decision regarding his involvement in the match against Comoros will be made at the last minute, depending on his level of readiness.
In televised statements, Regragui said that Hakimi is showing great commitment and a strong desire to return quickly: "Since he sustained the injury, Hakimi's goal has been to play in the Africa Cup of Nations. He is a leader within the national team, and what he is doing is incredible. He wants to be present, and he will be, God willing."
The national coach explained that the technical staff is still evaluating the player's readiness. He added, "We will see if he is ready for the first match. If he reaches 100% readiness, he will start. If not, we have time to integrate him gradually. The important thing is that he is with us, and things are improving."
Regarding Hakimi's potential participation in the opening match, Regragui stressed that the decision would only be made at the last minute: "The decision will be made at the very last moment. Hakimi is on the right track within the program we established with him, Paris Saint-Germain, and the medical staff. We will observe him in training and discuss his feelings and his full readiness."
The coach indicated that the priority is not just one match, but rather the player's participation in the entire tournament. He concluded, "Will we risk his participation in the first match when our goal is for him to play the entire tournament? We will make the decision among ourselves, and we hope for the best, God willing."
