Laporta After Camp Nou Return: "The Stadium Will Hold Over 100,000 Spectators and I Hope It Witnesses Many Barcelona Successes"
Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed his feelings following the official reopening of Camp Nou in its new form, after nearly three years of closure for reconstruction work.
Speaking after the 4-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in La Liga, Laporta said: "After almost 15 years, since we started this project, the return was incredibly beautiful. The celebration was simple but fitting for the occasion. What we wanted to emphasize today at Barcelona is the joy of life and returning to a stadium that embodies the club's future. I hope the stadium witnesses many successes for Barcelona."
Regarding those who doubted the possibility of completing the construction work in the coming months, Laporta responded: "Everything is progressing well. The mayor is one of those who greatly helped our return. By the end of 2025, things will be complete. On the third tier, you can see the cement starting to set. With everyone's efforts, we are building the stadium. It is the most important project in our history, and it is a reality we must embrace."
He added: "This stadium will remain a stronghold for Barcelona fans. It's the place where we will experience unforgettable moments. It will accommodate approximately 105,000 spectators. Flick told me he wants to see it and is excited about the idea of coaching in a stadium like this. The most important thing is that it is specifically designed for Barcelona fans."
It is worth noting that Camp Nou has been undergoing massive renovations since June 2023. After nearly three years of playing at Montjuïc, Barça returned today to host matches at their home ground, with a limited capacity of 46,000 spectators.
