Benhachem: "Benabid Saved Us Against O. Safi, Topping the League Will Give Us More Confidence in the Confederation Cup"
Amine Benhachem, coach of Wydad AC, believes his team will enter the CAF Confederation Cup with greater confidence after securing the top spot in the Botola Pro league. This follows their 2-1 victory over Olympique Safi in the eighth round of the domestic league.
During the post-match press conference, Benhachem stated, "This match was the last in a series of six fixtures for both us and Olympique Safi. After two CAF Confederation Cup matches, we entered a period of postponed games, followed by four league matches, and the burden was heavy."
He continued, "We implemented the scenario we had worked on, which was to score in the first half, as we knew the second half would be difficult due to Olympique Safi's attacking momentum. We had opportunities to score but didn't succeed. We hope to work on finishing attacks during the upcoming break because we haven't had time to do so before. We've maintained an average of two goals, which puts us under significant pressure in the final minutes."
Benhachem added, "Olympique Safi could have equalized, but thankfully, the players showed great fighting spirit, and Mehdi Benabid is always present in difficult moments and saved the team. I congratulate the team on this start; achieving 20 points has put us at the top of the standings, and this will help us enter the Confederation Cup competitions with greater confidence and achieve more victories."
