Morocco U17 Finishes Fourth in Africa Cup After 0-2 Loss to Egypt
The Egypt U17 national team secured third place in the Africa Cup of Nations after defeating their Moroccan counterparts 2-0 in today's continental tournament match.
Morocco entered the encounter aiming to conclude their participation on the podium, but Egypt successfully capitalized on their attacking opportunities to secure the victory.
Mohamed El Sayed opened the scoring for Egypt in the 32nd minute, assisted by Amir Aboul Ezz. The first half concluded with the "Pharaohs" leading by a single goal, despite the "Atlas Cubs" having superior possession and a higher number of shots.
As the second half began, Morocco continued their attempts to equalize. However, the referee consulted the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to disallow a goal scored by Ahmed Bashir. The score remained unchanged until the final minutes of the match when Ahmed Bashir successfully added Egypt's second goal in the 90+12th minute, confirming the "Pharaohs'" third-place finish.
Morocco had reached the third-place playoff after losing their semi-final match against Senegal 7-6 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in regular time. Both Morocco and Egypt have officially qualified for the FIFA U17 World Cup finals, scheduled to take place in Qatar at the end of 2026.
It is worth noting that Morocco had previously defeated Egypt 2-1 during the group stage of the tournament.
