Atletico Madrid Files UEFA Complaint Against Arsenal Over Fireworks
Spanish club Atletico Madrid has filed an official complaint with UEFA, European football's governing body, protesting against harassment faced by the team's delegation in London. The complaint is based on incidents that occurred outside the players' hotel before the Champions League semi-final second leg. The Madrid club seeks to clarify the impact of these events on the team's mental and physical preparation ahead of the crucial match.
The Spanish club revealed that a group of English Arsenal fans deliberately set off fireworks between 1:30 AM and 2:00 AM in front of the hotel where the delegation was staying.
Players confirmed that the noise and lights prevented them from getting sufficient rest on the night before the match at the Emirates Stadium. That game ended in a 1-0 victory for the London team, leading to Atletico's elimination from the continental competition.
In a related context, Arsenal had previously lodged an objection with UEFA regarding the length of the pitch grass after the first leg. However, UEFA did not accept the complaint as the stadium met the required specifications.
The English team is scheduled to play the final on May 30 in Budapest, facing the winner of the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. Bukayo Saka secured his team's qualification by scoring the sole winning goal in the second leg.
