Iranian FA President Demands Trump Be Barred from World Cup Interference
Mehdi Taj, President of the Iranian Football Federation, has outlined conditions for his country's participation in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He demanded guarantees from FIFA before the team attends the tournament.
Taj stated in remarks reported by Iran's Tasnim news agency, "We need to hold a meeting with FIFA officials to ensure there are no side issues or political backgrounds that could affect the national team during its participation in the World Cup."
The Iranian official criticized what he described as FIFA's "weak" handling of certain issues, emphasizing the necessity of preventing Donald Trump from interfering in sports affairs during the World Cup.
He added, "The Iranian national team qualified deservedly, and Trump is not in a position to determine whether the team is allowed to participate in the World Cup or not. Our country does not need permission from Washington to participate in the tournament."
Taj also mentioned that among his country's demands is that no flags other than the Iranian flag be allowed to be displayed inside the stadiums where the national team plays its matches.
