Hans Kraay Hopes Netherlands Avoids Early World Cup Clash with Morocco

Former Dutch player, coach, and sports analyst Hans Kraay Jr. has expressed concerns about the possibility of his national team facing Morocco in the World Cup.

Speaking to ESPN, Kraay stated that he hopes both teams succeed in the tournament, but he does not wish for them to meet in the early knockout stages, especially in the second round, noting that such a clash could prematurely end one team's journey.

He added, "Everyone says a tournament is successful if you reach at least the quarter-finals. We will get through the group stage, and after that, it depends on luck." He then clarified his concerns, stating, "I hope we don't face Morocco in the second round, because that would somewhat spoil this Dutch-Moroccan celebration for me. It's better if we meet in the quarter-finals, not before."

Kraay Jr. pointed out that both the Moroccan and Dutch national teams are strong, making an early-stage encounter difficult for either side.

He further explained that if the Netherlands tops its group, it would face the runner-up of Group C, which includes Brazil, Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland. This scenario opens up the possibility of an early confrontation between the two teams.

The Dutch analyst also declined to make definitive predictions about the World Cup winner, stating that teams like Germany, Argentina, Spain, and Brazil remain the strongest on paper. He simultaneously noted that the Netherlands' chances depend on the readiness of their stars such as Memphis Depay, Frenkie de Jong, and Donyell Malen.

Kraay Jr. concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the Moroccan national team also possesses a strong squad capable of going far in the tournament, which would make any potential match between the two teams both challenging and exciting.
