Al-Khelaifi Announces End of Super League Crisis, Real Madrid and Barcelona Return to UEFA Fold
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, President of Paris Saint-Germain, has confirmed the success of his mediation efforts to resolve the ongoing dispute between Real Madrid, Barcelona, and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). Al-Khelaifi explained that the two Spanish giants, who were the last proponents of the Super League project, have decided to return to the continental system following an agreement facilitated to end the recent division witnessed in the football arena.
During his participation in an international symposium named "The Forum," Al-Khelaifi revealed details of this agreement, indicating he received a formal request to intervene and reconcile viewpoints. The Parisian club president stated, "They asked me to work for peace, and I responded immediately by contacting officials from both clubs to ascertain their desire to end the crisis." He added that both parties showed great flexibility and committed to written pledges ensuring the stability of continental competitions and serving the sport's best interests, away from legal conflicts.
The sports official noted that the reconciliation efforts also included Spanish club Atlético Madrid as part of a comprehensive plan to unify ranks once again. In the same context, Al-Khelaifi pointed out that Barcelona had taken conciliatory steps with UEFA earlier this season, which paved the way for this collective agreement. Al-Khelaifi stressed that this accord would benefit all components of the game, including national leagues, national teams, and clubs alike.
Al-Khelaifi concluded his remarks by emphasizing the necessity of joint cooperation and overcoming past differences to ensure a better future for football in the "Old Continent." Al-Khelaifi said, "I thank Florentino Perez and Joan Laporta for their spirit of cooperation, as we all aim to develop European football despite occasional differences in vision." He added that the upcoming phase requires prioritizing general objectives over personal interests to ensure the sustainability of sporting and economic success for all partners within the football system.
