Barcelona Monitors Víctor Muñoz as Hidden Battle with Real Madrid Threatens Deal
Barcelona is looking to strengthen its left-wing position during the upcoming summer transfer window, as the sports management seeks new attacking options capable of providing the desired impact under coach Hansi Flick.
The club's preferred option last January was to activate a €30 million purchase clause for Marcus Rashford, but this option has gradually declined in recent weeks.
Sporting director Deco and his team have begun studying the market for alternatives. The list includes several prominent names, such as Abde Ezzalzouli (Real Betis) and Oscar Schjelderup (Benfica), in addition to Víctor Muñoz (Osasuna), who has emerged as one of the leading candidates.
Muñoz recently changed agents, joining Niagara Sports, a company that represents several Barcelona players. This move has been interpreted as a step that could bring him closer to the Catalan club, despite Real Madrid still holding significant control over his future.
Muñoz maintains good relationships with several former Barcelona youth players, including Balde, Fermín, and Lamine Yamal. The player and his entourage believe that a move to Barcelona could offer him greater playing opportunities, but Real Madrid is reportedly reluctant to see him excel in the shirt of their traditional rival.
The Royal club retains a buy-back option for the player from Osasuna over three consecutive transfer windows, for €8 million, €9 million, and €10 million respectively. Additionally, they are entitled to 50% of any future sale, and Osasuna is obligated to inform Real Madrid of any offers received for the player, as reported by the Spanish newspaper 'Sport'.
The biggest obstacle for Barcelona lies in this clause. Should the Catalan club make an official offer, Real Madrid would be able to intervene, either by re-signing the player themselves or by preventing his transfer to Barcelona by redirecting him to another destination.
