Flick's Directive: Barcelona Complains About Metropolitano Pitch Grass Ahead of Atlético Madrid Clash
Barcelona has requested UEFA to measure the length of the pitch grass at the Metropolitano stadium. This action follows an inspection by coach Hansi Flick during the team's final training session before their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Atlético Madrid.
The Catalan club expressed concerns about the excessive length of the grass and the difficulty it posed for ball movement. Atlético Madrid, however, assured UEFA that the pitch's grass height had not been altered and complied with all applicable regulations.
Barcelona's apprehension stems from fears that the long grass could impede their players' performance and prevent them from executing their preferred fast-paced style of play. This is particularly concerning for coach Flick, who is keen to orchestrate a comeback after his team suffered a 0-2 defeat in the first leg against Atlético.
Spanish newspaper Marca confirmed that Barcelona indeed submitted an official complaint to UEFA. In response, UEFA stated that the pitch grass would be closely inspected and trimmed if necessary, as regulations stipulate that the grass height should not exceed 3 centimeters across the entire playing surface.
