Javier Bonar Sets Record in Atlético Madrid Debut
Young defender Javier Bonar made his first-team debut for Spanish club Atlético Madrid on April 11, scoring a historic goal in his official debut. This achievement culminates the journey of the 20-year-old, who has progressed through the club's academy since joining in 2012, spending 14 years developing within the Madrid club before reaching this professional milestone.
Bonar set a new record as the youngest defender to score in his La Liga debut for Atlético Madrid, at 20 years, 10 months, and 8 days old. He broke the previous record held by Cacho Heredia, who scored at 22 years and eight months. Bonar, who captains the reserve team under coach Fernando Torres, stated that the day would have been the best of his life had they secured a victory. He said: "This is my heart's team, and I always want to win. The goal came as a result of the training work we do, and I thank Julio for the pass. It could have been the happiest day of my life if we had won the match."
The young defender expressed his feelings after reaching this historic milestone, affirming that the effort he put in over many years in the academy had paid off. Bonar stated: "I have been here for many years working hard. I have gone through difficult moments at this club, and I believe I deserve this. I thank everyone who supports me."
The same night also saw other academy players make their first appearances, including Dani Martinez and Ryan. Additionally, players Julio, Mauricio, and Jano received minutes with the first team to bolster the squad.
