Chaabani: "Moussaoui Did Not Commit a Serious Error, and the Sanction Against Him is Harsh"
RS Berkane coach Moein Chaabani expressed his support for player Hamza Moussaoui following the decision to suspend him for two years due to a prohibited substance case.
Speaking at the press conference ahead of the match against AS FAR, Chaabani affirmed that the player has the trust and support of the club's components. He stated, “Hamza is our son, our brother, and a leader for the team. Naturally, we regret the decision taken against him.”
The RS Berkane coach added that he prefers not to delve into the legal aspects, noting that the club's management has the necessary personnel to defend the player's rights. He explained, “As for me, I don't like to get involved in legal matters because we have enough people at the club to defend the player's rights.”
Chaabani went on to criticize the timing and severity of the decision, saying, “Based on experience, a sanction that comes 48 hours before a match, especially given the severity of the penalty for the mistake that occurred, does not warrant all of this. We consider it harsh.”
Explaining the incident, the RS Berkane coach considered that what happened does not amount to a serious error. He clarified, “Moussaoui did not commit a major or serious mistake. It was an oversight, and perhaps we can categorize it as carelessness because he took medication while sick without asking, but it shouldn't lead to this punishment.”
He continued, “In any case, if he had done something else, I would have been the first one not to keep him in the squad. But it was a mistake due to carelessness, and I know this person, so we will stand in solidarity with him.”
