Akhomach on Anti-Muslim Chants: 'I Don't Understand Why This Happens, It Doesn't Affect Me at All'

Moroccan international Ilias Akhomach made media statements following his contribution to Rayo Vallecano's 3-0 victory over AEK Athens. He reflected on the match's key moments and addressed several topics concerning his football career and some controversial issues.

Regarding his experience with Rayo Vallecano, Akhomach told "cadenaser": "Rayo is very different, but the common thing between them and Villarreal is that the group is fantastic, with an excellent technical staff led by Iñigo. It's a great honor to be here. The fans also never stop supporting, and that's the most significant thing I've noticed here."

He continued: "I needed to play; I suffered a difficult ACL injury. I recovered, and I had the opportunity to join Rayo, deliver a good end to the season, and develop as a player."

Concerning the controversy surrounding the Africa Cup of Nations, Akhomach denied any tension with his teammate Pathé Ciss, adding: "No... I am a person who doesn't like to talk about these matters publicly; I prefer to discuss them directly and not address them in the media. Was Morocco's triumph deserved? I don't know, you tell me... I respect your opinion."

Commenting on the offensive chants witnessed during the Spain-Egypt match, he said: "I received some videos sent to me by a family member." He concluded: "I have never heard anything like this anywhere before, and I don't understand why it's happening now, but everyone is free to do what they want. For me, it doesn't affect me at all. People exaggerate things a lot, and honestly, I don't care. If someone said it to me face-to-face, I would laugh and tell them it's very nice."

Regarding his opinion on the venue for the 2030 World Cup final, Akhomach stated: "In Morocco, in my country, always, always."
