Motsepe: CAF Transformed from $100 Million Deficit to $150 Million Surplus Thanks to Morocco
Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), stated that he would not make promises he could not keep or commit to pledges that could not be achieved in a short period. Speaking at a press conference held today, Thursday, in Rabat, Motsepe said, "I will not make promises I cannot keep, nor will I commit to pledges that cannot be achieved overnight or in the short term."
He added, "The truth is that good progress has been made regarding governance, transparency, and the quality of refereeing."
The CAF President explained that some of this progress had partially regressed. He stated, "However, we lost part of this progress, and I believe that is partly due to the professionalization partnership we had, which was terminated or rather, not renewed. Neither Gianni Infantino nor I were aware of this."
He emphasized the importance of acknowledging shortcomings and taking corrective measures, adding, "It is important, when there are shortcomings and difficulties, to acknowledge them, but that is not enough; effective corrective actions must be taken."
Motsepe continued, "What pleases me is that some of these measures we have taken are starting to reflect positively and are being recognized by our partners."
Regarding the financial situation, Motsepe stated, "When I became president, we had a deficit of $100 million. Now, we have a surplus of $150 million. We are also distributing $150 million, and we have increased prize money. This is thanks to Morocco and the head of the finance committee."
