New Paris Mayor Initiates Official Efforts to Sell Parc des Princes to PSG
Emmanuel Grégoire, the new Mayor of Paris, has commenced practical steps aimed at facilitating the sale of the Parc des Princes stadium to Paris Saint-Germain. He expressed his anticipation of reaching a formal agreement by next autumn. The Mayor is expected to request authorization from the Paris Council next week to initiate discussions on an urban development project that integrates the club's ambitions with the sporting objectives of the French capital, following his direct communication with Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of the French club.
Mayor Grégoire emphasized in his statements the necessity of linking the club's vision with the city's directions. Emmanuel Grégoire stated: "During the Paris Council next week, there will be a decision regarding Paris Saint-Germain and consequently the Parc des Princes, and I had the opportunity to discuss this matter with the club's president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi." He also indicated his desire to reach an agreement by autumn. Grégoire further clarified his objectives, adding: "Our goal is to coordinate Paris Saint-Germain's ambitions with our own objectives in the field of sport, and this endeavor aims to grant me authorization to discuss with the club." In a related context, the French official seeks to end the stalemate that characterized the issue under the previous mayor, Anne Hidalgo, who had halted negotiations concerning the stadium before the end of her term.
French state property services will determine the financial value of the historic stadium, while the final decision on the sale remains contingent on the Paris Council's approval, as it is the authorized body to rule on this matter. According to available information, Grégoire held consultations with the mayors of the 16th arrondissement and the municipality of Boulogne-Billancourt regarding the project. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain continues to explore alternative options with other cities for building a new sports facility, making the upcoming negotiations with the Paris municipality a crucial turning point for determining its future at its current home.
