Carteron: "Elimination Affected Wydad Players, We Are Working to Restore Spirit and Positive Atmosphere"
French coach Patrice Carteron, manager of Wydad AC, discussed the psychological state of his players following their elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup, confirming that the team was clearly affected both mentally and physically.
Carteron explained that Wydad players appeared significantly impacted after the elimination, amidst the disappointment and pressure that comes with playing for a club of Wydad's stature, where competing for titles remains a primary objective. He added that this impact was evident in both their performance and mental state.
The coach noted that his priority since taking charge has been to restore spirit to the group and foster a positive atmosphere within the team. He highlighted that he has worked intensively with his players to overcome this phase, expressing satisfaction with their commitment and the prevailing mood within the squad.
Carteron affirmed that daily work also focuses on communication and exchanging views with the players, especially given that the team possesses highly experienced individuals. This allows for reliance on leaders within the group to help overcome difficulties.
The Wydad coach concluded by emphasizing that restoring "joy" within the team remains key to returning to positive results, both to please the fans and to maintain competitiveness and the ability to win titles. He noted that the team is preparing for a series of matches which he described as both difficult and important.
