Tuchel Confirms Arsenal Duo Rice and Saka Withdraw from England Camp to Avoid Injury Worsening
England coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Arsenal duo Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka would not participate in the current international break due to injury concerns. This decision came after the players underwent medical assessments, which revealed they were suffering from physical discomfort. This prompted the technical and medical staff to withdraw them from the camp to prevent their conditions from worsening, especially given the busy schedule awaiting their London club.
Tuchel clarified that medical examinations revealed the players were not fit to participate in international fixtures, noting that risking their involvement would have led to negative consequences. The coach stated, "They were clearly experiencing discomfort during the medical assessment, so there was no point in them staying." He added that while the players strongly wanted to participate, the technical staff prioritized their safety, as the risk of injury worsening was "very high," according to him.
This absence comes at a critical time for Arsenal, who are competing on three different fronts and aiming to win the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years. The London club is scheduled to begin an intensive April program, facing Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals, followed by the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Sporting Lisbon. This makes preserving the fitness of key players like Rice and Saka a top priority for coach Mikel Arteta.
The international squad saw 10 Arsenal players absent last week, either by not joining initially or by leaving camps early due to various physical issues. Arsenal currently leads the Premier League standings by 9 points over Manchester City, with 7 matches remaining in the competition. Meanwhile, Rice and Saka remain fundamental players expected to feature in England's squad for the upcoming World Cup finals.
