"Winners" Group Escalates Criticism Against Ait Mena, Blames Him for Wydad's Failures
The "Winners" ultras group, supporters of Wydad AC, has intensified its criticism of club president Hicham Ait Mena, holding him responsible for the team's elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals. The group attributed the team's current struggles to accumulated mismanagement.
In a lengthy statement, the group asserted that the continental exit was not a surprise, adding: “Our African journey this season ended in failure, a failure to restore the club's continental brilliance and pave the way back to the top.”
The statement further elaborated: “The failure was not accidental but a result of accumulated wrong decisions that weakened the team until it started entering the field without personality,” referring to a decline in the team's technical and mental performance.
The group also criticized the club's recruitment strategy, stating: “He signed an entire team in the summer transfer window, then wasn't convinced after signing them, so he started signing another team in the winter transfer market.” The "Winners" believe these choices contributed significantly to the team's declining results.
Furthermore, the "Winners" stressed that changing the coach alone is insufficient. The statement read: “Benhachem's inevitable dismissal is not enough on its own unless accompanied by a change in the president's mentality and his vision as a manager.”
The group did not hide its dissatisfaction with certain decisions, adding: “Yesterday's elimination, you bear full responsibility for it, whether by prolonging Benhachem's stay or by allowing Faaka to join his national team outside FIFA dates,” directly blaming the club president.
In contrast, the statement lauded the role of the fans, affirming: “The club's fans are the only ones achieving full marks and performing their duty perfectly,” in recognition of their continuous support for the team despite negative results.
The group concluded its statement with a powerful message: “We will not accept a trophy-less season, which would be the fourth in a row,” indicating rising fan anger and their demand for a correction of course.
