Deschamps Monitoring Como Goalkeeper Jean Butez After Impressive Serie A Performances
Didier Deschamps, manager of the French national football team, has confirmed he is closely monitoring goalkeeper Jean Butez, who is delivering strong performances for Como in Serie A. Deschamps described the goalkeeper as "excellent" in statements highlighting his growing interest in Butez's technical level. Deschamps stated: "I'm not saying everyone has a chance, but Butez and Risser are excellent goalkeepers, and we are following them closely."
Butez stands out as one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A this season, having kept 13 clean sheets, placing him second only to league leader Yann Sommer. Beyond his defensive capabilities, the French goalkeeper possesses an exceptional ability to build play from the back. He ranks fourth among all players for progressive passes with 482, a statistic that puts him in direct competition with prominent playmakers such as Luka Modric, Manuel Locatelli, and Manuel Gela.
"Lele" Adani, a former Inter Milan player and current analyst, praised Butez's tactical contribution to coach Cesc Fàbregas's system, noting that he acts as a second playmaker on the field. Adani commented: "I consider Butez the best in the world in the process of playing out from the back, thanks to his creativity, diverse solutions, and reading of games. Most importantly is the context in which he plays under a brilliant coach like Fàbregas." The Italian club signed the goalkeeper a year ago from Belgian club Antwerp in a deal worth €2.1 million.
Butez's efforts have culminated in a significant contribution to Como reaching the Coppa Italia semi-finals after a 40-year absence, notably after his decisive penalty save against Napoli. With the third-best save percentage in the league at 79.8%, the player, who progressed through the Lille academy in France, proves his worth for international attention, benefiting from his previous experience which included playing in midfield during his youth.
