Ajax Amsterdam Appoints Oscar Garcia as New Head Coach to Lead Rebuilding Project
The Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam has announced the appointment of Óscar García as the new head coach for the first team, under a contract extending until June 2027.
García will assume the role with immediate effect, succeeding interim coach Fred Grim, who will return to his previous position at the club's academy. The appointment decision was made by Jordi Cruyff, who identified García to lead the rebuilding project for the struggling team in the Dutch Eredivisie during the current period.
García moves into his new role from coaching the youth team (Jong Ajax), which he joined less than a month ago. Prior to that, he had been without a coaching assignment for approximately a year since his departure from Mexican club Chivas Guadalajara, according to an official statement released by the Dutch club.
Fred Grim had temporarily taken charge of the first team last November, following the dismissal of former coach Heitinga.
This move comes at a time when Ajax is facing significant difficulties in the league standings. The club is currently outside the qualification spots for the UEFA Champions League and has secured only one victory in their last six league matches, having recently suffered a 3-1 defeat against Groningen.
