Uncertainty Surrounds Jürgen Klopp's Future at Red Bull, Mintzlaff Denies Departure Rumors
Austrian media reports have suggested that Jürgen Klopp is close to leaving his position as Head of Global Football for the Red Bull Group, just a few months after his official appointment in January 2025. The "Salzburger Nachrichten" newspaper indicated that the group's management observed a lack of tangible sporting development under the supervision of the former Liverpool manager, leading to uncertainty about his continued leadership of the international strategic vision for the company's network of clubs.
In contrast, Oliver Mintzlaff, the group's CEO, emphatically denied these reports, describing them as baseless claims. Mintzlaff stated: "These reports are ridiculous and completely unfounded. We are exceptionally satisfied with the work Jürgen Klopp is doing. He invests significant effort and is in constant communication with our coaches and sporting directors to sustainably develop our playing philosophy, and we are absolutely convinced that he is the right man for this job."
Despite this strong official denial, journalists in Germany have confirmed that a review and analysis of Klopp's professional future within the organization are currently underway. In this context, press sources indicated that the group might not object to Klopp returning to coaching next summer, while Oliver Glasner, the current Crystal Palace manager, has emerged as a potential candidate to succeed him should his departure from the sports network be confirmed.
The sporting management entrusted to Klopp oversees a vast global network that includes clubs like Germany's RB Leipzig, England's Leeds United, France's Paris FC, as well as teams in New York and Brazil. The German had announced his involvement in this project in October 2024, after a period away from the pitch following his departure from the Premier League, taking on responsibility for overall technical oversight and developing footballing talent across various continents.
