Munir El Haddadi Successfully Leaves Iran by Land After Air Strikes and Flight Cancellation
Spanish-Moroccan player Munir El Haddadi successfully departed Iranian territory following air strikes by the United States and Israel on Saturday, which caused widespread disruption to air traffic. El Haddadi, along with teammate Iván Sánchez, was forced to disembark their plane at the last minute after their scheduled flight was cancelled due to the aerial targeting of several locations.
El Haddadi embarked on an arduous 16-hour road trip by car to reach the Turkish border after air travel became impossible. He is currently in Turkey, awaiting arrangements for his return to Spain. Amid these circumstances, sources close to the player described the experience as "just madness," noting that authorities informed passengers they needed to disembark due to an air attack. The same sources confirmed that the player is "fine and in good health" after reaching safety.
The Spanish Football Federation announced the activation of a crisis unit to support Spanish athletes and technical staff in the region, coinciding with the decision to cancel Iranian League competitions following the recent attacks. In the same context, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended that approximately 158 Spanish citizens in Iran leave the country, especially after reports from the Iranian news agency ISNA stated 201 killed and hundreds injured due to bombings targeting the capital Tehran and other cities.
