Federation Issues Second Statement Today on Meeting Outcomes

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) issued a second statement today, Thursday, concerning its steering committee meeting chaired by Fouzi Lekjaa. The statement focused on the organizational and international aspects of the current football season, notably avoiding any discussion regarding the national team coach amidst the ongoing debate surrounding the future of head coach Walid Regragui.

According to the statement, published by the Federation following its meeting at its headquarters, FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa congratulated His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan before proceeding to discuss the agenda items.

Lekjaa stated that the current football season remains exceptional, considering past achievements, including the African Nations Championship (CHAN), the FIFA Arab Cup, and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). He stressed the importance of the international dimension of national football in both the short and medium term and also touched upon the status of the National Professional Football League.

The FRMF President added that a comprehensive evaluation of the Africa Cup of Nations will be dedicated to a special meeting in the coming days. He highlighted that the legal process related to the events that accompanied the final match is still ongoing, in light of what he described as "unjust decisions" issued by the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) Disciplinary Committee, affirming continued follow-up of the case through approved legal procedures.

In contrast, the official statement avoided any direct reference to the future of the Moroccan national team coach, whether concerning the termination of Walid Regragui's contract or the appointment of a successor. This omission comes despite escalating discussions within national football circles on the matter, leaving the door open for various possibilities until a clear official position is announced in the coming days.

The statement also addressed amendments to the regulations concerning the National Professional Football League. It reported that Abdeslam Belkchour, President of the National Professional Football League, presented a proposal including a set of amendments for approval. These amendments pertain to: the Statutes of the National Professional Football League – specifically the organization of general assemblies; the law of the Committee for Monitoring and Auditing Membership and Eligibility Conditions in Clubs; and legal recommendations specific to the football practice of the National Professional Football League.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Abdeslam Belkchour reiterated the difficulties faced by the Programming Committee. In response, the steering committee approved the National Professional Football League's proposal to ensure the completion of the national championship matches on their scheduled dates.
